Handwriting Recognition Software

The touch screen laptop has been one of the greatest advancements of laptop computers. The TouchSmart TM2 Touch Screen Laptop Computer was introduced to the market in 2009. This was the first easily transported computer that enabled its users to touch the screen in several locations and make gesticulations that controlled the computer’s software. Though this is a great feature, the primary reason most persons purchase this touch screen user is because of the handwriting recognition software that it has.

Over the last few years, recognition software has advanced a lot. The software works by the user making use of an electronic pen or stylus to write on the computer screen; the computer then reads the user’s handwriting and translates it into text format. Early variations of the handwriting recognition software were known to be inaccurate and were affected by a host of other problems. Since the development of the accuracy of speech recognition software, handwriting recognition software has advanced tremendously.

This software is ideal for persons who are always on the go, and who can’t always stop and use their laptops to type out needed information. This application is easier, as it only requires you to write the information on the screen as if you were writing in a traditional notepad.

Training your handwriting recognition software

You need to be aware of the steps that you need to take in order to get your handwriting recognition software to properly work on your touch screen laptop. First and foremost, you need to go through the training process. The handwriting recognition software will work just fine when you first receive it; however, to improve its level of accuracy, you must go through training.

The training process involves the software requiring you to write a series of phrases, it will then make a comparison of what you wrote to what it expected you to write. The handwriting recognition software will then note your particular style of handwriting, and as such will be more accurate when you use it in the future. For instance, it may ask you to write the phrase “I have a black ball,” after which it will make an attempt to read your handwriting. If the software translates your handwriting as “I have a black bell,” it will immediately know that it is not correct, and in the future it will keep in mind that at times when you write “a” it looks like an “e.”

Handwriting recognition software can either be online or offline. If your handwriting is sensed by intelligent word recognition or by optical scanning, then it is referred to as offline recognition. On the other hand, if the handwriting recognition software reads your handwriting by sensing the movement of a stylus, then it is referred to as online recognition.
